J. Andrew Miller

Co- Director/Violin Faculty

J. Andrew Miller holds a Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from Murray State University, a Master of Music degree in violin performance and Post-Graduate Performance Certificate from DePaul University. He has certification in the Sassmanshaus Tradition and has Suzuki registered training for Books 1-8.  His influential teachers and mentors include Sue-Jean Park, Vincent Frittelli, Karen Clarke, Olga Dubossarskaya Kaler and Betty Haag-Kuhnke.

Mr. Miller’s teaching combines an expertise in early childhood Suzuki education with a conservatory level technical foundation. His students range from 2 1/2 years to college bound seniors. As a Suzuki parent himself, he strives to teach students emotional intelligence, how to build healthy practice habits and how to make the violin an integral part of a child’s life.

Miller has served as director and faculty for strings programs across Kentucky, Tennessee, and Illinois including the Murray State String Project, JAM Violin Studio, Smiling Strings and the Chicago High School for the Arts. From 2017-2021, He served as a conductor and clinician for the Quad State String Festival held at Murray State University, where he premiered several of his own new pedagogical works for string orchestra. As a lecturer he has given violin education presentations at Murray State University, the University of Chicago and will present at the 2025 American String Teacher Association National Conference. He currently serves as co-director and violin faculty at the South Side Suzuki Cooperative.

Mr. Miller lives in North Riverside, Illinois with his wife, two children (Cecily, and Vinny, violinist and cellist) and two dogs.
