Our Story

Creating our musical community.

Our Story...

South Side Suzuki Cooperative, L3C was founded with the mission of creating a music school where students could be part of a vibrant musical community while still allowing teachers the freedoms of running their own independent and unique private studios. Our private studios are all located on the south side of Chicago, and each teacher has control over their own rates, schedules, and policies. The studios then come together with pooled resources to provide group classes, large scale concerts, masterclasses, and other community events. A common thread amongst our incredible faculty is their commitment to the Suzuki philosophy of education.

We are cooperatively run and governed by our teachers rather than forming a separate administration and board. This keeps our overhead costs low and allows our highly experienced faculty to be paid a rate that motivates them to stay for many years and grow alongside the school.

In addition to our teachers' years of formal education, it a requirement that each faculty member pursues yearly professional development so that they continue to deepen their practice as pedagogues during their time at South Side Suzuki.

South Side Suzuki Cooperative is a partner organization of the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts and University Church (Hyde Park).
